Wag! Walkers know Clearing (E)
Clearing East sits at the southeast end of the main runway at Chicago's Midway Airport. It is a small pocket community sandwiched between the airport and a large hotel complex just to the south that services the airport. Following WWII, over 300 companies were enticed to move their operations to the Clearing area, but during the 1970s and 1980s, many left as the recession set in.
Today, Clearing East and the surrounding communities are starting to see a resurgence as the town is beginning to enjoy a period of stability and regrowth. What was once home to acres of farmland is now a concrete jungle. However, Clearing East offers an oasis in the middle with comfortable middle-class homes, several small businesses, and a few places to grab something to eat. The proximity to the airport tends to make the area a bit on the noisy side, but you become accustomed to it after living here for a few months.
What is the terrain like in Clearing (E)?
The terrain here is much like anywhere else Chicago in that it is flat enough to land an airplane on. In fact, the area is so flat, it was chosen as the perfect place to build an airport in 1927 when Mayor William Hale Thompson first dedicated the Chicago Municipal Airport. In 1949, the airport would be renamed Midway Airport in honor of the many soldiers, sailors, and marines who died in the Battle of Midway.
The streets here are lined with short, grassy front yards separated from the roads by wide sidewalks and green strips. While there are a few shady trees along the way, many other residential communities offer far more for your summer walks together. The only way to make your walks challenging is to try taking different routes each day or take your pup for a car ride out of the area where you will find a number of parks to explore.
How many greenways are there in Clearing (E)?
Regrettably, while Clearing East might be a great place to live as a human being, it has very little in the way of green space for your pup to play in. However, just to the west of Clearing East lies Lawler Park. Not only does this park offer baseball and softball diamonds, but there is also a playground, horseshoe pits, walking trails, and, of course, plenty of green grass for you and your pup to enjoy playing on. The best part is that this park is within walking distance of most of the homes in Clearing East.
A short drive to the east takes you to Marquette Park and Fishing Spot where you, your family, and your pet can spend hours exploring the trails running around the park. The Marquette Lagoon is stocked with fish and there are acres of grass and trees for everyone to enjoy on a warm summer day.
