Much like most of Chicago, the area is largely flat. This makes Dunning a great option for those looking to enjoy a meander rather than a strenuous hike. It makes a nice change from the hustle and bustle of downtown city life. Your pooch is sure to enjoy a lazy Sunday stroll around Dunning's streets. To the west lies Schiller Woods South and the Indian Boundary Golf Course which are both lovely open, green spaces.

Located in the Dunning community, Hiawatha Park boasts 12 acres. Its facilities include a gymnasium and fitness centre. Outside, there are tennis courts, soccer fields, and a playground. The park is a firm family favorite with lots to keep the young ones entertained. The park does require dogs to be kept on leashes but there is still plenty of space for your pup to run around.
The other great open space that Dunning has is Shabonna Park. The park is located on Oak Park Avenue and sits on approximately 18 acres of land. Here you will find plenty of sports facilities including a pool, sports fields, and a walking trail. This park also requires that dogs be kept on the leash. The parks are immensely popular with residents, but it seems that for such a large area, Dunning is lacking in off-leash options. However, your pup is sure to enjoy both parks as there is a great deal to discover!
