Located in the Community Area of Riverdale on the southeast side of Chicago, the neighborhood of Golden Gate features a park of the same name. This neighborhood is mostly residential. There are also two schools in the neighborhood and a park with athletic facilities. Pet owners in Golden Gate can get around the area with their dogs and visit facilities, schools, and the few businesses located here easily as the community is not large.

Because of its inland location, temperatures in Golden Gate are not moderated by the lake and the mercury can plummet in winter to sub-zero temperatures. Wear warm winter gear when walking your dog in the cooler months. Summers tend to be hot and humid, however, this neighborhood is very shady and will cool pedestrians and pets walking the blocks in the summer. Rain is frequent in the spring, so remember to take an umbrella on an overcast spring day so you and your pup don’t get wet!

The Golden Gate Park is located in the northwest corner of the Golden Gate neighborhood and this park provides baseball fields, basketball courts, and water spray facilities. You can visit the park with your dog on a leash, however, keep your dog off athletic fields when in use and be sure to clean up after him. Heavily treed lanes in the residential areas make for a green space experience right off most residents front doorstep.

The Beaubien Forest Reserve is located adjacent to Golden Glen and this preserve provides a large natural area and park with trails that many locals take advantage of for strolls with their canine companion. You will find local wildlife here, some of whom may not appreciate your dog as much as you do! Keep your dog leashed so he does not harass local critters and birds and watch out for people fishing so your dog does not get in their way.
