Hanson Park is a small residential community nestled within Chicago's Belmont Cragin neighborhood on the northwest side of the city. Named for the park that comprises nearly half of the neighborhood, Hanson Park is known for its ample green space and quiet streets. The neighborhood mostly consists of single-family homes set along rectangular street blocks. Along its two busiest streets - West Fullerton Avenue and West Grand Avenue - you'll find a variety of shops and restaurants to visit during your daily walks. Just be courteous to other pedestrians.

Hanson Park is a good location for a walk with your dog along idyllic streets and through the park. Weather in Chicago changes with the seasons, so it's always important to check the weather before you head out with your pooch. The spring is the wettest season for the city while fall remains cool and mild. Winter can bring heavy snowfall while summer sees some sweltering days.

Hanson Park is a small neighborhood and a walk around the area spans about two miles. With minimal hills, Hanson Park makes for an easy, relaxing walk with your dog, though may present less-than-ideal terrain for individuals who enjoy a bit more of a strenuous hike. Many of the sidewalks feature grassy verges between the paths and the roads and planted trees provide shade as you explore the neighborhood. Take a moment to explore the grassy areas of the park where you can watch a game at the stadium.

West Fullerton Avenue is the busiest road in the neighborhood with cars, pedestrians, and bikers crowding the streets. Stay cautious as you cross streets, and watch your pet at all times. The southern part of the neighborhood is bordered by train tracks and, while there aren't any streets there, it's best to avoid that area and stay away from any train traffic.

Many of the community's sidewalks feature tall trees and grassy spots that are perfect for a quick stop. However, the only major green space in Hanson Park is the park it's named after. Hanson Park surrounds several schools and consists of several athletic fields including Hanson Stadium, the site of local school football games. Hanson Park is a nice area to enjoy some greenery and catch a school game or two, but you'll want to keep your pup securely on a leash to avoid any confrontations with other pedestrians or visitors.

For more green space to explore, you can head east of the neighborhood to Blackhawk Park which is a popular space for sports. The park features a short walking path and areas to sit in the shade and enjoy warmer sunny days. A little farther north is Cragin Park where you'll find a playground and some green fields to run around in.
