Top dog walkers in Lake Meadows
Wag! Walkers know Lake Meadows
Lake Meadows is a smaller neighborhood within the greater neighborhood of Douglas, located on the south side of Chicago and along the coast of Lake Michigan. It is a 10-acre plot of land with condominiums and a small park by the same name in its northeast corner. In its southwest corner, there is a small shopping center with a gym, a pharmacy, and other chain restaurants and stores to visit throughout the day or during an outing.
Due to its location very close to the Lake Michigan waterfront, the 'windy city' aspect of Chicago’s weather will apply even more to the Lake Meadows area. In the colder months, biting winds from the water will blow down on the neighborhood, so it is best to take precautions for keeping your dog warm on a walk. Chicago’s summers are beautiful and perfect for dog walking; a seasonal shift that locals are always looking forward to.
What is the terrain like in Lake Meadows?
The terrain of the Lake Meadows community is similar to that of most of the Chicago area: flat and mild, with few hills or inclines to be of concern on a walk. The main buildings in the Lake Meadows area are a handful of large, tall condominiums surrounded by large parking lots.
There are a good number of grassy areas as well as Lake Meadows Park which has some opportunities for dog walking, but the southernmost half of the neighborhood is mostly artificial. The shopping center is usually busy with plenty of foot and street traffic coming in and out, so it is better to stay in the grassy areas for walking your dog as they have multiple pathways and trails that you can take. Just a few steps to the northeast is the 31st Street beach where you can take your dog to enjoy a sandy play date on the edge of Lake Michigan.
How many greenways are there in Lake Meadows?
Lake Meadows Park is the only major greenway or park in the neighborhood. It has a baseball field as well as tennis courts, a soccer field, a playground, and an indoor recreation center. Due to the size of the neighborhood, this park serves Lake Meadows well and it is frequented by many of the residents each day.
Just across the highway to the east, outside of Lake Meadows, is Burnham Park which has a skateboarding park as well as plenty of green space for a dog walk. This is directly adjacent to some waterfront establishments such as 31st Street Harbor, Carefree Boat Club, and Chicago Water Sports Rental. The greenways and parks in the surrounding area make sense for the size and location of the communities they are in, but venturing out more into the city will provide you with a wider selection of opportunities for walking your dog.
