Mount Greenwood is on the southwest side of Chicago and is bordered by Morgan Park and Evergreen Park. Many of the firefighters, police officers, and union workers of Chicago call Mount Greenwood home. Mount Greenwood is home to the Saint Xavier University and St. Casimir Lithuanian Cemetery. This neighborhood contains the fourth highest percentage of Irish Americans in the USA.
The lovely Mount Greenwood Park has sports fields, a swimming pool, and a soft surface playground, among other attractions. There is an ice skating rink that is refrigerated for winter fun. You and your dog will enjoy strolling around the pleasurable walking paths of this attractive park.
There are several pet shops and grooming areas within Mount Greenwood to accommodate your dog’s needs, including the Park Pet Shop and the Posh Pet Day Spa. There are lots of great restaurants in this area, including several with good outdoor seating so you and your dog can both dine out.
Bicycle friendly roads bisect Mount Greenwood, allowing you and your dog to travel the city by bike. There is a very wide grassy divider between the sidewalk and the road, so you will be comfortable walking your dog on a loose leash throughout most of Mount Greenwood. This is generally a flat area, with blocks divided evenly by long straight roads for comfortable walking throughout.
Chicago is known as the windy city for good reason, and you will have a nice breeze much of the time. This is also a very humid area, however, so you may find yourself uncomfortably damp during your walk on warmer days. Dress in airy clothing and make sure your dog has plenty of water in hot weather! This area is affected by all four seasons, so you may experience some snowfall in the winter along with hot summers. Weather is affected throughout Mount Greenwood by the nearby presence of Lake Michigan, so it's generally more temperate here than areas further inland.
Much of the lovely Mount Greenwood Park is devoted to ball fields, but it also offers plenty of grassy areas for you to relax with your dog, as well as walking paths under mature tree cover. This is a great place to play ball or frisbee, although there is no fence here, so you will have to be careful to keep your dog on a leash.
There are a variety of smaller regional parks within Mount Greenwood as well, including the Kennedy Park, Beverly Park, and Mc Kiernan Park. While these parks are primarily ballparks, they do provide a nice place for you to stroll.
For more extensive exploration and fun for your pup, head towards the 50-acre park, which is just outside of Mount Greenwood. This park provides walking paths and a lovely lake to walk around with your dog, along with plenty of grassy areas. There is even a dog park where your dog can safely enjoy some off-leash time with her friends!
