Top dog walkers in Pill Hill
Wag! Walkers know Pill Hill
Pill Hill is considered to be a moderately affluent middle-class community located on the south side of Chicago. Here you will find spacious houses situated in a quiet residential setting. The region is within easy driving distance of I-90 without being on top of all that freeway noise and congestion.
At one time, Pill Hill was one of the top neighborhoods for local doctors to live in thanks to its proximity to South Chicago Hospital. The village is within driving distance of dog-friendly parks and pet stores despite not having a park of its own. One nice thing about Pill Hill is that there is very little in the way of commercial development of any kind. In fact, if you want to go shopping or find the latest nightlife, you will need to go for a drive. The same applies to dog parks, but you are only a short drive from the Calumet River and Lake Michigan.
What is the terrain like in Pill Hill?
If only there were a better word than 'flat' to describe the terrain in the Pill Hill area. Despite being referred to as 'Pill Hill,' this is more of a moniker than a fact. This tiny pocket community has very little to offer you and your pooch when it comes to going for some serious walking exercise. One nice thing you will both enjoy is the wide sidewalks running through the area. Most have plenty of grassy areas for your pup to walk on and keep their feet cooled down as well as being able to take care of business while you are out on your hike. Help keep the community clean by removing any messes your pup decides to drop off. The entire community offers plenty of fun places to walk and is conveniently close to the parks and beaches along the coastline of Lake Michigan.
How many greenways are there in Pill Hill?
Being a mainly residential area, you would expect there to be plenty of parks and green spaces within its borders. Regrettably, there isn't much in the way of green space within the community beyond the playing fields at Joseph Warren Elementary School and a few empty lots. But there are parks and, of course, Calumet River and Lake Michigan within easy driving distance.
Two blocks to the north of E. 91st Street, you'll find Jesse Owens Park with a walking trail, multiple baseball/softball diamonds, tennis courts, plenty of grass, and shady trees to enjoy. Most of the streets have grassy strips between the sidewalks and streets along with shady trees lining the routes to help keep you and your dog cooled down when walking in the heat of a Chicago summer day.
The community also has several empty lots that have been cleared, but most are still considered private property and may not be the best place to wander.
