The neighborhood was developed in the 1950’s and consists of mostly single-family homes in a middle class setting. You won’t find a large number of businesses in this neighborhood but plenty of them are just on the borders including restaurants, grocery stores, and more. You have the best of both worlds: idyllic streets and nearby business to take care of your beloved friend’s every need. When it comes to weather, walking is possible most of the year, except in the middle of the winter when brutal storms from lake-effect conditions can lock the city down. Rainy Park to the north has been around since the airfield was built in the late 1920’s despite serving as temporary housing for World War II Vets during the war. The park now has gardens, grass, trees, and paths for walking on.
A large playground and grassy field next to Durkin Park Elementary school serve as a great place to let your dog enjoy a romp on the grass as well. While not an official park, it is developed for public use and spans two city blocks. Scottsdale is also a short distance away from Marquette Park and Dan Ryan Woods which also have large green spaces for those who would rather enjoy the shade and greenery rather than city streets. Dan Ryan Woods offers a multi-use trail and Marquette has a lagoon and multiple walking trails.
