Wag! Walkers know Tally's Corner
There are some who would tell
you that Tally's Corner is one of the mythical neighborhoods in Chicago, but if
you ask those who live here, they might tell you something completely different.
Within the community, there are several restaurants,
coffee shops, and bars to check out. There are also dog parks and pet stores within
driving distance. The majority of homes here are single-family
homes along with a number of beautiful
parks and playgrounds scattered throughout the community for you to check
out. All of the homes sit on quarter-acre lots and have sidewalks with grass
berms for you and your pup to go walking on.
Living in Chicago means dealing with
the winters which can be brutal when the lake effect winds and snows are blowing.
There can be weeks when the temperature never comes close to rising above the
freezing mark and you could be buried under tons of snow, so be prepared.
What is the terrain like in Tally's Corner?
Tally's Corner is a relatively new planned community that
offers perfectly level roads lined with sidewalks. Taking your pup for
walks here can be a bit on the dull side
unless you have a good imagination. Keep in mind that you don't have to stay within the bounds of the community when going for
walks. But, if you intend to wander out of the neighborhood, make sure you pay attention
to the traffic on the main roads as it can be heavy at times.
One thing you should be aware of is that during
the summer months when the outside temperatures are in the 80s, the concrete sidewalks can be as hot
as 135°F or more. When you only need 120°F to fry an egg, imagine what temperatures
this high can do to the pads under your pup's paws. Take your summer walks early
in the morning before the sun has a
chance to heat the pavement up.
How many greenways are there in Tally's Corner?
Despite the fact that
Tally's Corner is a carefully designed and developed community, it seems as though
the developers were relying on the parks in other communities for their green spaces. There is a large sports complex at the
northern end of the community, but it is
not really the best place to visit with a pet. If you do, be sure you keep them on a leash clean up after them.
Up
on 91st St. next to the Evergreen Market Place is the 50-Acre Park. This park offers you the chance to spend the
day at the "beach," a disc-golf course, and plenty of grass to run around on. Best of all, there is a
fenced-in dog park for off-leash fun. The park has a
walking trail around the fence line and is separated
into areas for large and small dogs. It's a
great spot for your pooch to run around with the other dogs!
