In many ways, West Ridge is the heart of Chicago's Indian and Pakistani communities. This part of town has become a mecca for those who love Indian and Pakistani foods. There are several restaurants serving authentic cuisine, a large number of retail stores, and several ethnic grocery stores that draw large crowds to the neighborhood. Along with being one of the largest Hasidic communities in the Midwest, West Ridge is a virtual melting of cultures and nationalities and covers a large area. There are several dog-friendly parks in the area where you and your furry friend can enjoy some play time along with several pet supply stores and grooming locations. One of the only real problems with walking through this neighborhood is trying not to be enticed into the many eateries as most will not allow you to bring your dog inside. Still, walking around the area offers plenty of things to see.
Chicago and the many communities that make up the Greater Chicago area lie on a massive flat plain. The land here is flat for many miles, which has its good and bad points. Among the good points is that when the lake effect snows hit, there are no hills for you to navigate while you are driving or taking the dog for a walk. However, it can also make going for a walk a little on the dull side if you are looking for challenging terrain. What you really need to do is make every effort to vary up your walks by taking different routes and going different directions. Your pooch is probably less concerned with the paths you follow as he is about finding a place to do his business. Keep in mind that no matter where you and your dog go for a walk, it is your responsibility to clean up after him.
When it comes to green space, the residents of West Ridge have a lot to be thankful for. Not only are most of the residential streets lined with beautiful shady trees, but there are several parks within the community. The largest of these parks is Warren Park to the east. Here, you will find acres of grass for your pooch to run around on as long as you keep him on his leash. Paths are running around the outside of the park and winding their way through it that are ideal for taking your dog for a walk through the greenery on. The west side of West Ridge lies alongside Lincolnwood Centennial Park that stretches for several miles running north to south. The park has many trails running along a canal that runs from top to bottom through the middle of the park. Just remember to watch for other pedestrians on your walk and be courteous to others!
