Wildwood is a residential community located on the north side of Chicago, Illinois. It is roughly 13 miles northwest of the downtown Chicago area and is in the larger neighborhood known as Forest Glen. There are very few commercial spaces in Wildwood, but there also are several churches, a hotel, an elementary school, and access to public transportation. The residential spaces are generally made of large, standalone, single-family homes with expansive front and backyards that residents regularly use.

Like the rest of Chicago, Wildwood can experience quite an array of temperatures and types of weather. Average temperatures range from 18 - 84°F, but can also get significantly colder or warmer than that, depending on the months. Chicago's winters can sometimes be unpleasant with heavy windfall and cold winds, so it's important to take precautions such as jackets, boots, and other warm outerwear to protect you and your pooch from the winter weather.

Like most of Chicago, Wildwood is relatively flat. Illinois is actually known as one of the flattest states in the United States! This is great news for you and your pup, as you will be sure to have an easy walk without any strenuous or steep hills in your way. Additionally, Wildwood is made of mostly artificial terrain with only one greenway within the neighborhood's boundaries. However, the residential community has well-maintained sidewalks to help you and your pup remain safe. Wildwood is also known for having a more rural feel than the surrounding Chicago neighborhoods as the streets are all lined with large trees.

Wildwood is bordered by West Touhy Avenue to the north, North Lehigh Avenue to the east, and North Caldwell Avenue to the south and west. Additionally, to the west, you will find a large greenway composed of Bunker Hill, the Sidney Yates Flatwoods, the Edgebrook Flatwoods Forest Preserve, and the Clayton F. Smith Preserves.

As a smaller, residential neighborhood, there is only one greenway located within Wildwood's borders. Wildwood Park is home to several baseball fields, a softball field, tennis courts, a football field, basketball courts, and a playground for kids to enjoy. The paths through this park are paved, but they still offer plenty of people-watching opportunities for you and your pup! Just remember to keep them on a leash while visiting and be courteous to other visitors.

Thankfully, there is quite a large greenway immediately to the west of Wildwood. This large greenway is composed of Bunker Hill, the Sidney Yates Flatwoods, the Edgebrook Flatwoods Forest Preserve, and the Clayton F. Smith Preserves. There, you will find plenty of walking and hiking trails along the North Branch of the Chicago River, a golf course, picnicking areas, and general recreation areas.

The closest dog park and off-leash areas are 2 miles away at the Norwood Park Dog-Friendly Area.
