Louisville experiences all four distinct seasons with winters that can see frigid temperatures, rain, sleet, and snow. If you walk your dog daily in the area, be prepared with waterproof, warm outerwear and footwear for you and your dog. Spring and summer can be rainy and thunderstorms are common. Summer can be extremely hot and humid and severe storms with tornadoes are possible, so check the forecast and be aware to avoid being caught in extreme weather.
Louisville Waterfront Park is located along the Ohio River in the downtown area and provides various greenways along the water. There is also a unique pedestrian bridge located here, however, pets are not allowed on the bridge or in the water features or playgrounds. Dogs are allowed in the other areas of the park on a leash and there are miles of trails to enjoy in this park with your pooch. Bike and boat rental are available in this park so you can teach your dog to run alongside a bike or ride in a boat for a new fun experience with your pup!
The Riverwalk located along the river to the north of the downtown area provides a beautiful, waterfront greenway that area pet owners can enjoy. Other downtown area parks with greenways, rest areas, lovely shade trees, and open areas include Boone Square Park, Baxter Park, Old Walnut Street Park, and Fort Nelson Park.
