Wag! Walkers know Iberville Project
Just outside of the French Quarter and downtown New Orleans, this project area is still in the process of being rebuilt after the hurricane that destroyed large portions of the adjacent neighborhoods. Many of the brand-new homes are open to residents and since it's just a short walk from downtown and the French Quarter, there is still much to see and do. Food and drink are available in these districts and for your pet, there are some super swanky shops that are sure to suit their tastes. Vet care is also close by if necessary.
New Orleans has a humid subtropical climate so expect that walking will be great for fall through spring but summer months might be a bit more difficult with highs in the 90s and high humidity. Your best bet is to make good use of the early morning hours if you want to walk during summer months.
What is the terrain like in Iberville Project?
Much of the Iberville Projects neighborhood is still fenced off so walking is limited in this neighborhood. In the areas that are open, you will enjoy brand new sidewalks, grassy shoulders, and landscaping that is waiting for your dog to explore. Fortunately, it is just blocks away from some great neighborhoods for walking in, so for those living here, the construction zones do not have to be a hindrance for nice long walks with your pup.
The area is very urban so do expect to be walking on either concrete or brick sidewalks. There is not a lot of grass or trees, but there are shops galore! Just to the south is Downtown New Orleans which is just as urban. You won’t find any elevations throughout any of this area, just very long walks and the occasional green space that you can allow your pup to get a bit of a run through.
How many greenways are there in Iberville Project?
Because the area is small and urban, greenways are something you will have to travel to if you live in or near the Iberville Projects. Luckily for you, a short walk will take you to some great walking trails that are perfect for that early morning stroll.
Two blocks to the northeast, you will find the Lafitte Greenway Trail that stretches along a greenway with the same name. This trail also intersects with another greenway further to the north and a trail called the Jefferson Davis Trail. Along the trail, you will also find Comiskey Park with a large field and lots of trees. To the southwest is Duncan Plaza with paths for walking.
If you are feeling truly adventurous, you could walk down to the Woldenberg Park along the river. If you have the time and energy, it makes a great adventure. Just be sure to pack lots of water for your is the weather is warm!
