Aweoweo Beach Park will have your doggo howling with joy. As is true with most beaches on Oahu's North Shore, this beach is a beautiful space to enjoy some time by the sand and surf. It's tucked away in a residential neighborhood in Waialua, and is known by locals as a hidden gem. It's mostly known for it's family friendly park, and being an excellent space to spot sea turtles. The beach itself is not as crowded as others in Waikiki, and also offers spectacular sunsets.
Doggos are allowed in areas below the high tide line on this beach park, meaning on the oceanside of the line often marked by ocean debris and seaweed. The surrounding park is very family oriented, with a playground, basketball court, restrooms and a rinse shower. Although your pal is only allowed by the ocean in this park, splashing and playing in the water would likely be their favorite part anyways!
The shoreline can be a bit rocky in areas along the beach, but water access is easier just beyond the basketball court. The beach in itself is not that wide, but long enough to go for a walk by the water with your canine companion. The water is clear with not much surf, with a good stretch of sandy ocean floor. This makes it just pawfect for cooling off and for kids to play in the gentle waves. The rockier sections are where you'll see all the sea turtles. There is a sea turtle cleaning station, which is actually a ring of coral with a large rock in the center. The sea turtles swim in, and fish swarm around the turtle to clean off the algae from their shells.
Our four-legged friends will continue to be welcome at this beach park, as long as pet parents keep them leashed, and picked up after. Bring clean up baga from home. Please be sure that your doggo stays respectful to all humans and critters, and that they have plenty of fresh drinking water.
Overall, Aweoweo Beach Park is a furtastic way to spend the day with your best pal!
