Bar Lake Outlet is a quieter option than nearby Lake Michigan, making it popular amongst kayakers, paddle boarders, and fishers alike. For fishing fanatics, Bar Lake Outlet boasts brown trout, chinook salmon, coho salmon, steelhead, and yellow perch.
There is a parking lot right next to the shore as well as wheelchair access and a nice ramp with an overlook of the area. The outlet connects to Lake Michigan, which is yet another reason why it is so idyllic for outdoor enthusiasts. Because of the lake's shallow waters, skimboarders can often be found practicing and having some fun in the sun. Dogs are also fans of Bar Lake because of these low waters. Â
Manistee Riverwalk is a short walk from Bar Lake and offers a wide range of mouth-watering restaurants, shops, and outdoor seating for you and your four-legged friend to enjoy after a day at the beach. You can also access the boat ramp and fishing areas from the Riverwalk, or take the boardwalk out to Lake Michigan if you feel so inclined. Keep in mind there is no lifeguard and the fall and spring months can be cool on the water, but it provides a much-needed relief from the humid Michigan summers.Â
