Located roughly three miles south of the city of Manistee, Sundling Park promises a grrr-eat day at the beach for dog lovers and their fur babies. This on-leash beach offers a wide and usually uncrowded strip of sand on the shores of Lake Michigan, providing plenty of opportunities for you and your dog to have some fun in the great outdoors.
Perhaps the best feature about Sundling Park is that it's typically fairly quiet. With a plethora of more popular parks and swimming spots in surrounding areas, this is a lovely, little beach where you and your pet can enjoy some quiet time.
Accessed via a small parking area off Red Apple Road, the beach is found down a leisurely walk of about 400 feet through the park. The beach itself is roughly 60 feet wide and boasts plenty of open space where you and your pet can roam.
The beach is backed by grassy dunes but doesn't have a lifeguard on duty. It does, however, offer some stunning water views, giving you the chance to soak up some of the best that Lake Michigan has to offer.
Of course, make sure that your dog stays on-leash at all times and that, as always, you remember to clean up after your pooch. By showing courtesy to other beach users, we can ensure that this park and more like it across the country remain dog-friendly.
Picnic tables, pavilions, and ample shade are all available within the park itself, but it's down on the beach where all the fun really takes place. If you like taking long, relaxed walks on the beach with your furry friend, this is the paw-fect park for you. Your dog will love dipping their toes in the water and generally taking the time to enjoy the feeling of sand beneath their paws.
