Beach at Sullivans Island

The Beach at Sullivan Island spans 3.3 miles at the mouth of Charleston Harbor. This historic shoreline that is just minutes from Charleston, South Carolina, offers more than just a beach; its beauty spans white sands, store-fronts, and restaurants alike. 

This dog-friendly beach requires every pup that walks its shoreline to have a permit. Depending on your living situation and your dog's registration, the fee for a permit will vary. Twenty-five dollars for residents and $35 for non-residents are typical rates for the yearly permit (its validity spans January 1st - December 31st no matter when you purchase it). If you submit your dog's certificate with the permit application, a discount of $2 per registered American Kennel Club Canine good citizen will be granted!

Beyond the permit, owners must prove that their dog has never attacked or bitten another dog or human. All dogs must be up to date on their rabies vaccines and the owner must hold liability insurance in the event that their dog does cause a disturbance. 

Hours and leash rules vary depending on the time of year and day; however, owners are always responsible for their pet. If your puppy is on or off-leash, please be mindful of others around you and be sure that you are in control of your dog at all times. During on-leash times, the leash can be no longer than 10 feet. During off-leash times, the owner must have their leash accessible at all times. 

To ensure that others can enjoy the gorgeous beaches, please pick up after your dog. Waste bags are provided near the entrance of each beach access path. Grab the amount you may need and/or bring some plastic bags from home. 

Sea Turtles are prevalent at this beach. Ensure that your dog does not chase or provoke the turtles or any other wildlife during their time on the beach.
