Are you and your pooch looking to enjoy a long walk along the luxurious beach shores of Kiawah Island in South Carolina? If so, Benchmark beach if the perfect place to visit. The captivating 10-mile beach offers you and your pooch the opportunity to walk along the inviting shores while peering out at the Atlantic Ocean. On the beach, you'll find an assortment of amenities including a snack bar, restroom and shower facilities, as well as lifeguards on duty during the on-season.
This beach is the ideal place for you and your pup because it's been divided into two sections, the first and larger section of the two permits you to walk with your dog on-leash during the on-season, and off-leash during the off-season (please see special hours). The only rules to follow are to leash your dog during the off season if you see another friendly face walking by, and of course, to clean up after your pooch at all times.
The second area of the beach is actually a dog-designated area that gives your pooch the freedom of roaming off-leash all year long! As long as you can maintain full voice control over your pooch, have your leash on hand, and bring your dog bags to tidy up after them, you'll have no problems in the dog-designated area. Here, your pup is also welcome to swim in the inviting waters of the Atlantic while socializing with the new companions they're bound to encounter! To preserve the environment, the third section of the beach, the Critical Habitat area, is off limits to dogs at all times. Regulations on the beach are enforced by beach patrol, and failure to comply can result in a fine. Regardless, though, this 12-mile stretch of sun gleaming sand offers you and your four-legged companion the perfect place to take a stroll while enjoying the refreshing ocean waves of the Atlantic.
