The Douglas Recreation Area is city-owned and includes a boat launch to the Manistee River. There are docks and fish-cleaning areas. Plan to bring a picnic so you can rest and eat in the pavilion overlooking the lake. The area has full amenities that include the beachfront, playgrounds, basketball court, tennis courts, volleyball courts, and concessions. The softball fields are lighted with restrooms. Grants and contributions have paid for the amenities of this lovely park. Visitors enjoy watching the boats and maritime traffic as well as gazing at the lighthouse.
Whenever you bring a dog to a public place, keep them on a leash while walking through the recreation area. Dogs may not be tied up in public areas and they are not allowed off leash in the city. Residents must have a license for dogs and demonstrate that the animal has been vaccinated. City ordinances require owners to clean up after their pets. It is always a good idea to bring water, a dish, and a towel when taking your dog to play at the lake.
