Next time your pup wants to go to the beach, consider paying a visit to Kaiaka Bay Beach Park. You’ll find this beach nestled on a small peninsula on Oahu’s North Shore. Here your four legged beach bum can chillax and take it easy while enjoying some puptacular scenery.Â
Canine visitors are welcome to wander anywhere below the high tide line. This means your pooch can go where the sand is wet, as well as in the ocean. They’ll have a heyday romping through the waves and sniffing around the sand.Â
In the native Hawaiian language, Kaiaka means “shadowy sea.” This name suits the beach since mud from the nearby Paukauila and Kiki’i streams can make the water cloudy on the west side of peninsula. The west side is also pretty rocky. So when your pup wants to go in the water, head over to the east side where there is a nice stretch of sand and furrific water access. There are some rocks on this side, so help your doggo find a clear area.
If your pup needs a break from the beach, take a spin
around the park. While trotting through the park, your pal will enjoy pawsome views of the
Waianae Mountains and the old Waialua Sugar Mill. Be sure to check out Pohaku
Lana’I, a large mushroom shaped rock. Legend has it this rock floated across
the Pacific Ocean from the mystical island of Kahiki. The beach park also has seven
campsites which do require a permit.Â
Wherever you wander, make sure you have a clean
up bag on hand. Pick up after your pooch so the beach stays free of doggy
debris. Also, always carry plenty of cold water for you and your pup. Above all
else, have a woofderful time hanging out with your pup at Kaiaka Bay Beach Park!
