Description
Depending on whom you ask, this beach was originally called Kokololio Beach. Some say that Kekela is connected to Kokololio Beach and comprises the southern portion. What's not confusing is the beauty and fun Kakela Beach holds for you and your fur-pup! In winter, the waves crashing upon the shoreline are mesmerizing and not for any but the expert surfers and bodysurfers. In summer, the waves are small and gentle, the water warm and soothing and the beach a woofderful place to catch some rays , walk in the hard sand below the tide line, or swim.

Kekela features a green area behind the beach outfitted with picnic tables and pawsome, clean facilities. Ironwood trees provide shade to both the park area and the upper part of the beach in the afternoon. The northeastern, or "windward" side of Oahu where this pretty beach sits always offers cooling breezes, even on the warmest summer days.

Free parking can be had between the road and the park, in a large, paved lot. Waste bags and drinking water are not provided, so be sure to bring your own bags and use them to pick up after Fido, along with ample drinking water to share. Be aware that beach sand can get very hot after several hours in the bright sun, so a protective coating will help keep the pup's pads comfortable. Also, slather some SPF on the pupper's nose and ears to prevent sunburn! A splash and a few minutes of doggy-paddling will help cool the rest of your pooch's body.

Tidepools and reefs offer some entertainment, especially for human kiddos, as you explore the nooks and crannies for small sea creatures like crabs and anemones. Snorkeling is best toward the northern part of the beach. And if you and Fido get tired of sun, sand and ocean, there's a 1-mile, easy trail leading from the park that can provide some shady and diverse adventure.

Whatever your expuptations, Kakela Beach will meet them with its barktiful beach and furtastic facilities that will make you want to stay the whole day!
