Mokuleia Beach Park

Mokule'a means "district of abundance" in the Hawaiian language, and it seems like a fitting name for this beach! Mokule'a Beach Park is the only beach park with facilities along this shore, between Waialua and Ka'ena Point. It is also known for being the location that the first episode of the popular television series Lost was filmed, where the plane crashes on the beach. Whether you're a fan of the show or just want to enjoy some gorgeous sand and surf with your canine, this is the beach to check out!

Dogs are allowed anywhere below the high tide line on this beach park. This  refers to the ocean side of the line often marked by seaweed and ocean debris. The rest of the 38.5 acre beach park features grassy areas, picnic tables and a large parking lot. Some people also choose to spend the night here at Camp Mokule'ia, near the soothing sounds of the crashing waves. Although puppers are only allowed near and in the ocean, the long sandy beach will have them leaping for joy! 

The beach here features a shallow reef that attracts swimmers, surfers, kite and windsurfers year-round. All of the water sports are seasonal, as there are usually calm waters in the summer months and strong swells in the winter. It's recommended for swimmers to stay out of the water during the winter months because there are dangerous rip currents that can sweep you out to sea. You'll notice that the waters are teeming with diverse sea life, making it an ideal place to enjoy some snorkeling. 

Doggos are welcome here with both paws, as long as a couple ground rules are followed. Please be sure your pal stays leashed, picked up after, and respectful to other humans and creatures. Always make sure your pup has plenty of fresh drinking water and shade.
