Perhaps one of the lesser known parks in the area, Sugarloaf Cove Beach is tucked into a quaint cove and a favorite spot for locals and visitors alike. The beach offers ample room for skipping stones and getting out of the sometimes-harsh winds of Lake Superior. There is a short trail that leads through the woods from the beach, making it an idyllic place to spend a day exploring with Fido by your side.Â
There are many different sides to 34-acre Sugarloaf Cove, featuring red pine forests, rocky cliffs, bedrock, alder thicket, side logs, and a scenic overlook that offers breathtaking views of Lake Superior. In mid-summer, beachgoers will notice the many native wildflowers blooming along the slope of the overlook.Â
Sugarloaf Cove Beach is located just off the North Shore Scenic Byway, making it the perfect place to stop and take a quick hike along the shore with your favorite four-legged friend. There are numerous beaches and benches along the way, providing a great place to stop for lunch or simply to soak up the beautiful scenery in the cove. Please remember that dogs are not permitted in the Scenic and Natural Area and that the center asks pet owners to pick up after their dogs. Other than that, enjoy a fantastic day at Sugarloaf Coach Beach, you won't be sorry!Â
