Axtel

Each year, more than two million people come to enjoy Rough River Lake in McDaniels, Kentucky, and the Axtel Campground is a great place to stay during your visit. This spacious campground has 158 sites, and about a quarter of them have electricity. The campground sits right on the shore of Rough River Lake -- no matter which campsite you're in, you'll have excellent views of the water. The Axtel Campground welcomes furry, four-legged campers, but they're required to remain on a leash no longer than six feet when they're not in your vehicle.

The daily fee for camping at Axtel starts at just $22 for electric sites, and each campsite at Axtel has a picnic table, a campfire ring, and a trash hanger to keep pests out of your garbage. Some of the campground's other convenient amenities include a dump station, hot showers, wifi for an extra fee, a fish cleaning station, and a playground for your two-legged children to enjoy. Visitors note that the washrooms are kept very clean and well-stocked.

There are plenty of ways to enjoy Rough River Lake during your stay, and Axtel makes it easy to do so. For $5 a day, you can use their boat ramp, and boat rentals and a marina are also available. Campers can fish for bass, crappie, or catfish on the lake, jet ski, swim, or just get some sun on the sandy beach. There's also a golf course adjacent to the lake, and if you're up for a short drive, you can make the one-hour trip to Mammoth Cave National Park. Here, you'll find more than 240 miles of passageways that make up the most extensive cave system in the world. You may also want to visit the Holt House in Hardinsburg or the Aquatic Center in Leitchfield when the weather better suits being indoors.

Fun events take place on holiday weekends and keep an eye out for bass fishing tournaments throughout the year. No matter how you spend your time at the Axtel Campground, you and your dog are sure to have a pawesome time making memories together!
