Description

Featuring 678 magnificent acres along the Intercoastal Waterway and the Gulf of Mexico, Big Lagoon State Park is an ideal destination for outdoor enthusiasts who want to have some fun in the sun. Swimming is a favorite activity for visitors and locals alike, particularly since the climate is conducive for a dip practically all year-round.

For those who want to experience an adventure, Big Lagoon State Park is at the beginning of the Florida Circumnavigational Saltwater Paddling Trail. The trail extends around the whole state of Florida, creating an experience you won’t soon forget.

If you prefer to spend most of your time on dry land, picnicking is another great option if you decide to stay at Big Lagoon State Park. There are numerous picnic tables available to campers, and you can even rent a large pavilion for big gatherings. There are also geocaching opportunities throughout the park, allowing you to download an app and take part in a makeshift treasure hunt. Just make sure to bring a small trinket on your journey. That way, if you remove an item from the cache, you can replace it, ensuring the next treasure seeker has something to find.

Anglers may especially enjoy a visit to Big Lagoon State Park. With the proper license, you can catch bluefish, sea trout, flounder, and redfish in the surrounding waters. You can also give crabbing a try in the park’s lagoon. Plus, boat ramps are available for an additional fee, allowing you to take off into the surrounding waters and try your hand at deep sea fishing.

For those who want to stretch their legs, consider heading out into the woodlands on one of the hiking or nature trails. Around 5 miles of trails are available in the park, providing you with the ability to explore the shallow bays and narrow beaches while keeping your eyes open for nesting shorebirds and other wildlife. In fact, Big Lagoon State Park is a gateway to the Great Florida Birding Trail, showcasing just how many birdwatching opportunities are actually available.

If you bring your dog to camp at Big Lagoon State Park, they need to remain on a leash whenever they are outside of your RV or tent. Additionally, make sure to pick up any pet waste, ensuring you do your part to keep the area clean.

Wag! does not allow or encourage Pet Care Providers to bring dogs to parks.
