Description

If you're aching for an authentic Louisiana experience, it's hard to beat what's offered at Bogue Chitto State Park. Located not too far from New Orleans, this recreation area has acres of beautiful wetlands just waiting for you to explore -- alligators and all!

For those looking to stay a while, there are 81 campsites split into the upper and lower sections of the park. Each lot comes with hookup options along with a fire ring, grill, and picnic table -- plus many of them look right out onto the water! If cabins are more your thing, you'll find four of them here, though none of the buildings allow canine guests. The sites are both level and spacious, and drinking water is accessible throughout the park.

As with all state parks in Louisiana, to enter, all visitors (minus children and seniors) must purchase a $3 permit. Fees to camp start at $25 a night for Sunday to Thursday stays in the off-season and jump up to $33 for Friday and Saturday night visits.

What makes Bogue Chitto different from other parks is the incredible variety of terrain that sits within the park's borders. Venture out with your woofer by your side to discover the amazing sandstone formations down in Fricke's Cave, or take to the water and get lost in the incredible connection of rivers. Younger campers will appreciate the splash pad playground located on the grounds, and it's hard to find a better place to go horseback riding -- you can even rent a horse just outside the camp!

When it comes to our smaller four-legged friends, the park asks that you make sure your pupper stays out of all buildings. As always, do your part to keep pooches permitted here by cleaning up after your barky buddy quickly and properly. While leash guidelines are unclear, we recommend that you bring one along and use it to ensure your fur-kid stays close by -- there are alligators here, remember!

For a stay amongst the swamp, be sure to add Bogue Chitto State Park to your must-visit list!

Wag! does not allow or encourage Pet Care Providers to bring dogs to parks.
