Description

If you and your buddy are looking for an outdoor adventure on Kentucky’s Cumberland Plateau, you’d be barking mad not to consider camping at Buckhorn Campground! Not only is the campground in a prime location, but it offers almost all the amenities a pup and their person could ask for. You’ll have access to showers, electricity and water hookups, laundry facilities, and a dump station.

The scenery isn’t bad, either! The sites sit right on the edge of the serene Buckhorn Lake, and you’ll be treated to fabulous views of the Appalachian Mountains in the distance. Careful, though -- due to the elevation and remote location, the drive up to the campground is steep and single-lane. Larger RVs might have some trouble. Buckhorn is an understandably paw-pular place, so it’s best to make your reservation early, particularly if you’ll need to stay at one of the campground’s accessible sites. There's no entrance fee to the area.

You and your furry friend certainly won’t be bored during your stay! If casting a line is your idea of a good time, you’re in luck -- Buckhorn Lake is home to all sorts of swimming scaly critters, including crappie, catfish, and bass, and you can cook your catch on one of the grills provided with each site.

The one-mile nature trail makes for a nice walk, but the immediate area doesn’t offer much for serious hound-dog hikers. Never mind, though -- if you’re willing to go a little fur-ther afield, you’ll find plenty of routes to suit laid-back lapdogs and four-pawed fitness freaks alike! The Red River Gorge Geological Area is a real mutts-visit. You don’t need to think geology rocks to appreciate the striking sandstone cliffs, and the paths meander along streams and under the stunning hardwoods that make the Cumberland Plateau famous. Be sure to be very careful on the trails -- there are some pretty steep cliff drops.

WiFi is available at Buckhorn, but most cellular networks will struggle to find coverage. Drinking water is provided, so just bring the doggie waste bags and you and Fido are all set for a furrific outdoor adventure at Buckhorn Campground!

Wag! does not allow or encourage Pet Care Providers to bring dogs to parks.
