Description

Head to the mountains for an outdoor vacation at Burning Bear Campground. You can escape the summer heat and enjoy the scenic views and wildlife in this high mountain valley. There are hiking trails and a creek in the area. The facility has 13 sites. Each spot costs $22 per night and can house up to eight people and two vehicles or one RV. Bring your tent, trailer, or camper up to 30 feet long, and be prepared for a rough, bumpy drive up to camp.

The campground is in a clearing with minimal shade, but you're next to stands of ponderosa pines and a creek. Bring along your pole to fish for cold-water species like trout. You can stretch your legs with Spot on one of the two furrific trails that are just down the road. Burning Bear Trail is a six-mile out-and-back trek through the pine forest. The path offers a moderate workout with some steep climbs, a stream crossing, and pawtastic scenery. Another option is the Abyss Lake Trail. Climb from about 9,700 feet to 12,700 feet as you ascend this footpath to the picturesque alpine lake. Enjoy stunning views of the mountains around you and colorful wildflowers in season. You might catch sight of mountain goats, elk, moose, or bighorn sheep along the way.

You're welcome to share your wilderness adventure with Spot. Just remember to control your special pal with a leash whenever you have them outside. Immediately remove their waste to keep the facility and forest clean.

It's a small wonder Burning Bear Campground sees steady use in the summer. This pawesome facility has a camp host and offers a range of outdoor recreational options for you and your furry friend. You'll need to make reservations four days in advance to secure your spot. One caution: there are bears in the area. Store your food and other items that could attract these woodland creatures in approved containers.

Wag! does not allow or encourage Pet Care Providers to bring dogs to parks.
