This camping area has three public-use cabins that you and your pooch are both allowed to hang out in! The Channel Islands Marine State Park is located between 12 and 30 miles northwest of Juneau and is easily accessed by a small boat from the Amalga Harbor, the Auke Bay, or the North Douglas Boat Launch. You'll be able to see a ton of wildlife, especially marine wildlife such as seals, sea lions, humpback whales, and even orcas. The cabins contain pit toilets, beach access, brooms and dustpans for cleaning, and even campfire rings.Â
As we said, your dog is certainly allowed. There are no posted rules about bringing your dog, but for safety purposes, you might want to follow a few strict guidelines. For starters, don't leave your dog outside alone or let he or she wander. In Alaska, especially on the islands, you're often at the mercy of bears and other scary wildlife, so you don't want to let your dog wander off and accidentally meet up with one!Â
Additionally, if your dog doesn't abide by strict voice commands, then you need to keep them leashed at all times. Cleaning up your doggo's messes is going to be a huge deal, too. While the campsite will not provide you with doggo poop bags, you need to come prepared - leaving your dog's messes out in the wild won't just attract dangerous wildlife to your area, it might harm the ecosystems and the wildlife itself.
