Charlestown State Park

Charlestown State Park is a beautiful state park located on the Ohio River. The park is home to a furrific, dog-friendly campground with 194 scenic campsites. All of these sites offer electrical hookups, and 60 of the sites have full hookups available. The nightly rates for this pawesome campground are $23 to $33 for sites with electrical hookups and $30 to $44 for sites with full hookups. Non-electric sites start at $16.

If you and your pup enjoy hiking together, Charleston State Park has seven scenic trails you can explore. If you’d like to go on a short trek, try Trail 7. This 0.9-mile trail takes you in a loop around Rose Island, which is home to the ruins of numerous historic buildings. You’ll also get great views of the Ohio River on this hike. If you’re looking for a longer trek, hop on Trail 3. This rugged 2.1-mile loop trail goes along the Ohio River and Fourteen Mile Creek. As you’re walking on this steep trail, you’ll get stunning views of the cliffs that line the river.

Charlestown State Park also has plenty to offer fishermen and boaters. If you’re bringing a boat, the park has a boat ramp on the Ohio River. You can also go fishing on the banks of Fourteen Mile Creek — to access this fishing area, simply hop on Trail 3. Many people also enjoy kayaking and canoeing on the river and creek.

After your day’s adventures are done, you and your pup can enjoy the amenities at Charlestown State Park’s campground. There are grills throughout the campground you can use to cook dinner for you and your dog. Each campsite also comes with a fire ring and a picnic table where you can relax and enjoy views of the water.
