Description

For the outdoor enthusiast, the Coldwater Equestrian Campground in Blackwater River State Forest offers a wide variety of recreational activities. There are 56 campsites that can accommodate your RV or tent. Most sites have electrical hookups. Other amenities include flush toilets, showers, a dining pavilion, and fire rings. Primitive sites start at $15 per night.

For your horses, the facility offers paddocks, stalls, or corrals for an additional fee. There are also kennels for field trial events here. Bring a current negative Coggins certification with you when you bring your steed on state lands.

The campground is near Coldwater Creek in a pawtastic recreation area. There are over 55 miles of riding paths in the forest. The Pink and Yellow Trails are part of Florida's Trail Trotter Program. Go for a ride through the longleaf pine and mixed oak forest, and look for carnivorous pitcher plants and other flora along the way. This area is home to clusters of red-cockaded woodpeckers and other birds.

After exploring the land, launch into the water with a canoe. Paddle down the creek and enjoy the scenic beauty of the woods. From shore, you can try your hand at fishing for bass, catfish, and other species. You'll need a state license before casting your line. Other activities to enjoy here include swimming, hiking, and mountain biking.

Blackwater River State Forest is pet-friendly to four-legged friends of both the equestrian and canine variety. Whether you're in the campground or out on the trail, keep your pooch on a leash. Honor any areas with posted restrictions, and collect your pup's waste and dispose of it properly.

If you're looking for a puptacular place to camp with your whole family or a group of friends, consider Coldwater Equestrian Campground. You can enjoy long rides in the woods on your horse or go canoeing on the creek. Recreational opportunities abound in and around the facility. Hunting is allowed on the state property -- make sure you know if it's open season when you stay here.

Wag! does not allow or encourage Pet Care Providers to bring dogs to parks.
