Description

Deer Creek Campground is a furrific spot for a Fido-friendly getaway! Perched on the shores of Huntington Lake in California’s Sierra National Forest, Deer Creek is a little no-frills -- you won’t find any RV hookups or a shower station -- but the location is simply stunning. Almost all campsites have views of the lake, and much of the area is well-shaded by tall pines. You’re also quite close to the resort community of Lakeshore, where you’ll find a grocery store, so there’s no need to stuff your bag full of provisions! Deer Creek is also a grrreat spot from which to spy the sails of the High Sierra regatta in July. Spaces fill up quickly, so it’s best to make your reservation early in the high season, particularly if you’ll need to stay at one of the campground’s accessible sites.

Hound-dog hikers and nature-loving pups will be glad to know that the campground is nearby the Kaiser Wilderness, well-known for its trails, wildflower meadows and striking Alpine landscapes. The athletic animals among us might enjoy a trek on the Kaiser Loop Trail, a 19.5-mile loop that features some steep inclines. If you and your doggo can tackle those slopes, though, you might feel like the view is worth it -- expect stunning vistas of the forest, lake and the High Sierra Mountains. If you’re out of breath just thinking about it, don’t worry! You’ll find plenty of easier trails to choose from closer to home. The Rancheria Falls trail is four miles long and mostly level, and the falls themselves are breathtakingly beautiful. And of course, you’re always welcome to cast a line into Huntington Lake!

Deer Creek Campground doesn’t have any wifi, though most networks do have coverage out there -- it’s best to check with your provider before you go if you need to be constantly in contact. Campfires are allowed within designated rings, but beware that in this part of California, fire regulations can be changed with the weather. You’ll find drinking water on-site, so fill those bottles up if you’re heading off for a hike! Be sure to bring waste bags for your pupper, and have a pawesome trip!

Wag! does not allow or encourage Pet Care Providers to bring dogs to parks.
