Description

Florence Marina State Park is found on the northern part of Lake Walter F. George in Omaha, Georgia. This 45,000-acre lake is a dream for those who love water sports and water activities. With a dedicated fishing pier, the adjoining marina provides boat ramps and boat mooring.

The Kirbo Interpretive Center at the park offers educational, informative, and interactive exhibits of the flora and fauna found in the area, as well as artifacts from prehistoric civilizations and history of the local Native American settlers.

With so much to see and do, you'll want to take your time to explore it all. The park's campground can accommodate RVs and tents, and cottages are available to rent. Daily rates for RVs start at $32, depending on the season. Though open year-round, the park's peak season is summer, so book your spot in advance to avoid disappointment.

Recreational activities are a major attraction at Florence Marina State Park. Boating, hiking, mini golf, and fishing are a few of the highlights here. Birdwatchers will be enthused to spot herons and the occasional bald eagle. The growing hobby of geocaching (a treasure hunting game using GPS receivers to track down a cache) is a popular activity. The campground also boasts two playgrounds for the kids.

Pets are allowed at the state park, but dogs must be kept on leashes no longer than 6 feet. If you’re renting a cottage, dogs are only allowed in the dog-friendly cottages, so be sure to specify your needs when booking. Fido will pawsitively love the abundance of hiking trails and nature walks found in the park.

Located very close to the Alabama border, nearby attractions include Providence Canyon, known as Georgia’s Little Grand Canyon. Featuring the oldest known earthen mound (a naturally formed mound of rocks and dirt built as temples and burial grounds in the Common Era), Kolomoki Mounds is a scenic and archeological wonder a short drive from the campground.

If you’re looking to reconnect with nature, you'd be barking mad to miss out on Florence Marina State Park!
