Description

Nestled along the Platte River in Gothenburg, Nebraska, the Gothenburg Blue Heron Campground offers a glimpse into pioneer life on the prairie, but with modern comforts. The campground has 58 full-service pull-through RV sites for rates starting at $30 per night. A dedicated tent-only site offers dry ground and shade for camping under the stars. If you prefer an indoor setting, there are three cabins available for rent.

Modern conveniences for campers include showers, restrooms, a grocery store, and free wifi. Each site has its own picnic table and fire pit, as well as cable hook-ups. There is also a snack bar on-site for a quick bite to eat. A swimming pool and playground can be found on the property. There is also a wading pool for the younger kids.

Outdoor activities include horseshoes, volleyball, and water sports or fishing on the Platte River. You can spend the day watching beavers in the river or keep your eye out for an occasional blue heron sighting. The deer that romp through the grounds will be a wondrous thing to see for both two-legged and four-legged observers.

The campground is pet-friendly. Fido will enjoy roaming the grassy areas of the camp or the nature trails that will take you further into the cottonwood trees that surround the property. Nearby Lake Helen offers more areas to walk your dog on-leash.

If you’re a history buff, take a short road trip to the Platte River Archway Monument in the town of Kearney to learn more about Nebraska’s deep pioneer history. You can also tour the Pony Express trails and take in a round of golf at the Wild Horse Golf Course.

If you’re traveling out west on Interstate 80, stop off at the Gothenburg Blue Heron Campground for an overnight stay on the beautiful Platte River. Be sure to check out their souvenir shop that specializes in British teas and trinkets.
