Great Salt Lake State Park

As the largest salt lake in the Western hemisphere, Utah's Great Salt Lake is a pretty big deal and well-known across the nation. But did you know that this spectacular lake is also a pawesome destination for a pet-friendly camping getaway?

Located just off Interstate 80 and a short drive from Salt Lake City, this gargantuan lake stretches 75 miles north to south, and 35 miles east to west. There are three state parks dotted around the lake's shoreline, with Great Salt Lake State Park situated on its southern edge.

If you want easy access to all the activities and attractions Great Salt Lake has to offer, this is the park to visit. Whether you're taking a relaxing stroll along the beach, going for a swim, or launching a boat, you'll find what you need right here. Bird watchers are also drawn to the park to the more than 250 bird species that either live in or migrate through the region, while picnic areas and campsites offer spectacular views out over the lake.

Speaking of views, make sure your camera is fully charged and ready to go, as you'll want to grab plenty of shots of the water's glassy surface. 

When you're ready to set up camp for the night, the campground is open all year long and has sites capable of handling RVs up to 40 feet long. Your canine companion is welcome too, but you'll need to make sure you follow all park rules surrounding pets. This means you'll need to keep your pooch on a leash of six feet or shorter, and remember to clean up their waste whenever required.
