Located in Hartwell in northeastern Georgia, Hart State Outdoor Recreation Area is paradise for water sports enthusiasts. Located on the shores of Lake Hartwell, and with boat ramps providing easy lake access, the park is an ideal destination for anyone who wants to get out on the water.
A 55,590-acre reservoir, Lake Hartwell's sparkling clear waters draw visitors to the park from far and wide. Anglers enjoy the chance to target largemouth bass, striper, black crappie, bream, and more, with the park's boat ramps and docks ensuring that there are plenty of opportunities to wet a line. Boating, water skiing, and canoeing are also popular, and there are plenty of scenic spots on the lake's shoreline where you can simply relax and take in the view.
If you'd like to do some exploring on land, a 1.5-mile trail is open to hikers and bike riders. There's a kids' playground available to keep younger visitors entertained, as well as three picnic shelters where you can enjoy a meal.
When you're ready to bed down for the night, the Hart State Outdoor Recreation Area campground offers 62 campsites for tents, trailers, and RVs, as well as 16 walk-in campsites. Camping fees vary depending on the type of site you select, while there's also a $5 parking fee.
Happily, your furry friend is more than welcome to join you in the campground. However, you'll need to ensure that your pet is on a leash of six feet or shorter when not confined to a vehicle, and that you clean up after your dog whenever necessary.
Apart from that, the only other thing you need to worry about is enjoying some time in the great outdoors. There's heaps to see, do, and experience in Hart State Outdoor Recreation Area, so take your dog along and explore everything this grrr-eat park has to offer.
