Along Florida's Emerald Coast in Destin's city limits is Henderson Beach State Park -- a beautiful place where you can camp beside the salty waves of the Gulf of Mexico. Huge white sand dunes make this area like no other, and the boardwalks that wind through the surrounding shoreline forest add even more to experience at this state park.
The campground here offers 54 campsites for RV, trailer, and tent use. Some of these sites are wheelchair accessible and all allow canine patrons as well. Prices per night are a standard $30 for every site in the park, and a $6 parking permit is required for each vehicle that enters. Electric hookups come with the lots, and both drinking water and a dump station are provided at this facility. Henderson Beach also has propane stoves on-site as well as a covered shelter for group gatherings.
While beach fun like swimming and sunbathing are abundant at this state park, there are many other things to do that don't involve the shoreline. Hiking here is a big draw as there is a trail that heads out into the lush growth that surrounds the sand. And the sand itself is pretty spectacular, as the dunes top 30 feet in height! Various programs are planned by the park to help visitors get the most out of their stay, so be sure to look into what is going on during your visit.
Four-legged campers are welcome on the campsites and the hiking trails; however, all of the designated swimming areas and beaches are off-limits for pooches. To keep pups allowed in Florida state parks, be sure to do your part by cleaning up after your woofer and disposing of all pet waste appropriately. It's also important to abide by any posted signs about where and how to have your dog in this campground.
For all who'd like to take their camping trip to a stunning beach this year, Henderson Beach State Park is a great place to visit.
