A place that was once the site of constant conflict has now been restored into a peaceful haven. Head out of Tampa, Florida just a short way to land in Hillsborough River State Park. The grounds are part natural sanctuary, part historical landmark. with the reconstructed Fort Foster Historic Site reminding all visitors of the struggles of times past.
At the campgrounds, you'll be met with 100 campsites, the vast majority of which accommodate both RVs and tents. A few of the sites are large enough to host big rigs and allow for pull-through exits. The lots all provide electric hookups, access to drinking water, a picnic table, and a fire ring for grilling food -- or just for enjoying the peaceful flames. Rates for all sites are $24 per night of stay. and a parking permit costing $6 is required for entry. A gift shop is located in the park for any looking to commemorate the history they've learned about during their visit.
While at Hillsborough River, there are many activities you can partake in to fill your days. The park organizes nature programs and guided tours for any wanting to experience all of the features of the area. Get out on the river at the canoe and kayak launch, or jump right in and have a swim in the refreshing water of the river. Or, if the land is where you have your fun, grab your pooch and hit some of the 7.5 miles of hiking trails that run through the park!
Puppers are welcome at the campground as long as they stay on their best behavior and refrain from barking or acting aggressively towards other campers and their animals. Leashes are a requirement here, as is cleaning up any and all waste your woofer leaves behind. During daylight hours, you are permitted to leave your doggo leashed at your site for up to 30 minutes, but we advise you to do so cautiously and only if necessary.
