Description

A small campground, a scenic reservoir and water activities galore -- that's what you can expect when you stay at Utah's Huntington State Park. Located roughly 140 miles southeast of Salt Lake City, the park centers on the warm waters of Huntington Reservoir.

Boating and water skiing are hugely popular pastimes on the lake, and various watercraft are available to rent during peak periods. Fishing is another favorite activity in the park, with warm-water species including largemouth bass and bluegill in abundance. A boat launching ramp and fish cleaning station are provided.

When you're not out on the water, you might just want to sit back and enjoy the impressive scenery on offer. Picnic tables are dotted around the park and offer excellent water views, with the towering peaks of the Wasatch Plateau providing a dramatic backdrop.

Finally, if you ever need a break from water sports, there are a few great day trips on offer nearby. For example, you could check out the Cleveland-Lloyd Dinosaur Quarry to the east, or perhaps marvel at the 2,000-year-old rock art at Buckhorn Wash.

The pet-friendly campground in Huntington State Park features 25 sites, some with full hookups and others with electrical and water hookups. Sites are reasonably spaced and well-kept, while the small size of the campground means you never have to worry about overcrowding.

Dogs are more than welcome, but you'll need to make sure your pooch is leashed and well-behaved at all times. As always, take care to follow signposted rules about where you can and can't take your dog, and clean up after them whenever required.

There's a $7 fee for day-use visitors, while camping costs $28 for a full hookup site or $25 for a site with electrical and water hookups. The campground is open year-round and sites can be reserved up to four months in advance; however, from the start of November until the end of February, camping is offered on a first-come-first-served basis.

And while it can get mighty cold during the winter months, Huntington State Park is still a pretty spot to visit at any time of year!

Wag! does not allow or encourage Pet Care Providers to bring dogs to parks.
