Description

Climb to the top of the Grand Mesa in Colorado with your best fur-buddy to find the picture-perfect scenery of Jumbo Lake. Don't let the lack of peaks fool you -- the mesa is a giant, flat-topped mountain at an elevation of 10,000 feet! These high altitudes make for cooler weather during the warm months of the year, and at the beginning of open season, the grounds are swarming with mosquitoes.

For those that wait until midsummer to trek up the mountain, you'll be met with an incredible natural wonderland made up of blossoming wildflowers, pristine lakes, and a forest made of aspen and spruce. You can pick from 26 different campsites, some double-sized and others offering electric hookups. Larger rigs will be able to fit on select sites, and reservations are allowed after July 1st. Each lot comes with its own picnic table and fire ring along with access to drinking water. Nightly rates start at $18 for a basic site and $26 for one with an electric hookup.

While the name of the lake that sits beside this campground is "Jumbo", you won't find any huge bodies of water up on the mesa. Of the 300+ lakes that are here, Jumbo Lake is one of the small ones -- go figure! Large or small, Jumbo (and the other 5 lakes that are within walking distance of the grounds) make for the perfect spot to get out on the water, and boats to do so can be rented at the nearby Grand Mesa Lodge. The fishing here is excellent, so remember to pack your pole and tackle box. Also, while you're here, be sure to check out the West Bench Trail No. 501, where you and your doggo can get your daily dose of outdoor exercise.

Canine campers are welcome throughout the campground, but we recommend that you keep your woofer on-leash (or by your side at all times if they have impeccable voice obedience) to prevent them from bothering other visitors. Keep this facility the beautiful haven it is by always cleaning up after your four-legged friend and disposing of any pet waste in the trash receptacles located on the grounds.

For a camping trip that you and your pup are sure to love, head way, way up the Grand Mesa for an incredible stay at Jumbo Lake.

Wag! does not allow or encourage Pet Care Providers to bring dogs to parks.
