Ever heard of Lake Havasu? The Kaibab National Forest? How about the Grand Canyon? We thought maybe you'd heard of them. Now, imagine camping in a beautiful location that's just a few miles away from all of these places that also allows you to bring your four-legged best friend with you. Seems impossible, right?Â
Wrong!Â
The Kaibab Lake Site and Recreation Area is the perfect campground for you and your pup if you're looking for an escape from the hustle and bustle of city life. This campground is seasonal and only open from April 27 through Sept 30 for overnight camping. It's totally primitive, meaning that there are no hookups for water, sewer, or electric, so you and your pup better be ready to ruff it! It's right on a lake, but unfortunately, you're not allowed to take a dip as it's the city's water source (try to restrain your pooch from jumping in the lake!)Â
There are individual, double, and group campsites available to you. Tents, trailers, and motorhomes up to about 40 feet are welcome and can be accommodated. There are campfire rings, picnic tables, and drinking water provided. You're also nearby to several dams, fishing piers, nature trails, as well as forest attractions, overlooks, and more!Â
Now, you'll essentially be in the wilderness, which translates to "your doggo is your responsibility", but that doesn't mean the campground doesn't have a few regulations you'll need to abide by. For starters, your dog must always be kept on a leash. This means that whether you're walking your pup, hanging at your campsite, or running off to explore, your dog has to be carefully leashed! Make sure you never allow your dog to enter someone else's campsite, and always clean up their messes!Â
