Description

Make no bones about it, McGregor Lake Campground is a furrific camping choice for pups and people looking for a Fido-friendly outdoor adventure in Montana’s stunning Kootenai National Forest. That’s if you don’t mind sacrificing a few mod-cons, of course. Facilities at McGregor Lake are on par with most US Forest Service campgrounds in the area -- that is to say, pretty rustic. Don't expect to find any showers, electricity, or RV hookups here.

But if you can do without your creature comforts, you can reap the benefit of McGregor Lake’s fabulous location. The campground sits right on the shores of the lake itself, and most sites have waterside views. Not only that, but the rest of the Chain of Lakes are just a bone’s throw away! The young pines provide plenty of privacy between sites, but their age means that not all of the sites are shaded, so plan accordingly. There are only 27 sites at McGregor Lake, so it pays to make your reservation early. There’s no entrance fee to the area, and sites start at $12.

You and your pupper are sure to sniff out something to do during your stay! McGregor Lake is something of a place of pilgrimage for anglers, as its location in the aptly named Fisher River Area makes it a prime spot for trophy trout fishing. Non-furry family members might like to go swimming, but unfortunately, your doggo won’t be able to take a dip. Though the three-mile lakeside trail outside of camp makes for a nice walk, there’s not a lot of op-paw-tunities in the area for serious hound-dog hikers, but if you’re willing to go a little fur-ther afield, you’ll find plenty of more challenging routes in the nearby Flathead Valley.

WiFi isn’t available at McGregor Lake, and many cellular networks might struggle to get coverage. You might want to consider your camping choices carefully if you’ll need to stay in constant contact. Fires are permitted, and drinking water is available on-site. One further note -- there has been some grizzly activity in the area, so take all relevant bear precautions. Remember to bring waste bags for your furry friend, and have a pawesome stay at McGregor Lake Campground!

Wag! does not allow or encourage Pet Care Providers to bring dogs to parks.
