How does a relaxing and pet-friendly camping vacation on the banks of the mighty Mississippi sound? Pretty grrreat, huh? That's why Merrick State Park is well worth a visit for any dog lover and their canine pal.
This 322-acre Wisconsin State Park lies alongside the Mississippi just to the north of Fountain City, and it offers a wide range of outdoor activities and attractions for visitors. For most guests, the best fun is to be had out on, around, or near the water.
Merrick State Park features two boat landings which can accommodate most motorized launches, as well as a canoe launch for canoeists and kayakers. It's the perfect spot for a tranquil and calm paddling adventure, and there's even a self-guided canoe trail to guide you around. Rental canoes are available every day from Memorial Day through Labor Day.
Anglers are also drawn to the park by the chance to fish for large and smallmouth bass, bluegills, crappies, and more. Even better, basic fishing equipment is offered free of charge at the park office.
Other park highlights include scenic picnic areas (one of which, near the lower boat launch area, is open to leashed pets), a park playground, and two miles of hiking trails.
There are 65 individual campsites in three campgrounds, with some sites featuring plenty of mod-cons while others are a little more primitive in nature. Pets are welcome in the campground, but you'll need to make sure you stick to all the signposted rules regarding where you can and can't take your pet. In addition, don't forget to keep your pooch leashed at all times and clean up after them whenever required.
Merrick State Park is a pawesome location for you and your four-legged friend to kick back, relax, and get back to nature. Make sure you add it to your shortlist of must-visit canine camping destinations!
