If you love fishing, swimming, spending time in nature, and going camping with your four-legged friend, you'll have a grrr-eat time in Mistletoe State Park! Located to the northwest of Augusta on the southern shore of 71,000-acre Clarks Hill Lake, the park is ideal for anyone looking to indulge in some water-based recreation.
As you'd expect, much of the activity in this 1,972-acre park centers on the lake. Known to provide some of the best bass fishing anywhere in the country, the lake draws anglers from far and wide. Three boat ramps are provided in the park, while canoe rental is also available in the summer months.
If you need a break from fishing, there's a sandy swimming beach where you can take a refreshing dip to escape the hot weather. Alternatively, you can take your pick of the many trails that make up a 15.5-mile trail network, and you might even catch a glimpse of the abundant native wildlife or mistletoe high in the trees while out on your stroll.
Other park features include four playgrounds, a hands-on nature center, and a scenic campground. Located on a peninsula that offers wonderful water views at sunrise and sunset, the campground offers pet-friendly accommodation in tents, trailers, RVs, cabins, and cottages.
A $5 parking fee applies, while camping fees vary depending on the type of site you select. Wifi isn't available in the campground but can be accessed in the park office.
If you're staying with your pet, make sure you stick to those areas of the park that are designated as pet-friendly. You'll also need to clean up after your canine pal and keep them leashed at all times.
Mistletoe State Park is a charming destination where there's no shortage of things to see, do, and enjoy. Best of all, you can experience everything this great park has to offer with your furry friend by your side.
