High up in the majestic Rocky Mountains, among towering pines and overlooking the crystal-clear Hungry Horse Reservoir, visitors will find the Murray Bay Campground. A 20-site oasis situated deep within the Flathead National Forest, just under 30 miles from the Continental Divide in northwest Montana, the cozy campground offers endless opportunities for boating and fishing. Since it is dog-friendly, Fido can join you for an adventure in Montana's scenic wilderness.
The 19-acre campground provides plenty of space for patrons to enjoy with their four-legged companion. Campsites are well-spaced out, which allows visitors to enjoy some solitude without any disruptions from other campers. Huckleberry bushes and tall pines are scattered throughout the grounds, providing ample amounts of shade and adding to the gorgeous scenery. Most of the sites offer breathtaking views overlooking a lake, the shore, and mountain peaks in the distance.Â
Although the campground accommodates tent and RV camping, please note that the maximum trailer length should not exceed 32 feet. The roads to the campground are gravel and dusty, so be prepared for a wash after your camping trip. Single-family sites start at $16 while double sites are $32 per night. Both come with picnic tables, fire rings with grills, and bear boxes. Make sure to store food and dispose of trash properly as bears roam the area.Â
Although there are no showers at Murray Bay Campground, there are vault toilets and potable water. Swimming in the reservoir is allowed, though it's unclear whether dogs are allowed to take a dip with you. The campground features a boat launch for easy access to the trout-filled Hungry Horse Reservoir as well as plenty of trails nearby for hiking. Feel free to ask the on-site host for recommendations, one of which will surely be the gorgeous Glacier National Park located 31 miles away.
