Description

Myakka State Forest Flying A Campground is a public campground located in Englewood, Florida. The tent and RV campground is situated within the beautiful 8,592-acre Myakka State Forest, which features wooded, multi-use trails for hiking, as well as creeks and rivers that are not only scenic but are also great for fishing. The campground is divided into two sections; one accommodates tents and RVs while the other is meant for tent camping only. Although the campground is pet-friendly, dogs are allowed only at the tent and RV loop and must be kept supervised at all times.

There are ten primitive, single-family sites, and each campsite is private and very well-shaded, with tall mature trees and lush bushes surrounding it. RV sites are spacious and level, but no water or electricity hookups are available. The campground features a portable toilet which is said to be stocked and well-maintained most of the time. The campsites are equipped with fire rings, grills, and picnic tables. Raccoons and bears can be encountered in nearby areas, so please make sure to use food storage lockers and designated trash receptacles for waste.Ā  Since there are no dump stations or water connections at the campground, make sure to pack enough to last the trip, or head down to the ranger station that is located a mile away for some potable water.

From hiking, biking, horseback riding, exploring over 40 miles of trails, and fishing by the scenic creek, to bird and wildlife watching and picnicking, the campgroundā€™s location enables patrons to experience all the joys of camping in the wilderness, without having to drive for hours outside of the city limits.Ā Plus, close and easy access to the Myakka River provides patrons with kayaking and canoeing opportunities. Fishing at the Myakka State Forest requires a fishing license, so make sure you have one before arriving at the campground.Ā  Other noteworthy must-visits include the suspension bridge, the local beaches, with Siesta Key beach being most popular, the Boca Grande Lighthouse and Museum, the Marie Selby Botanical Gardens, and the Myakka Pines Golf Course, all of which are located within a few miles of the campground. Fees start at $8.93 per site.
