Toledo Bend Reservoir is one of the largest man-made reservoirs in the United States. There are two Louisiana state parks on the shores of the reservoir, one of which is the 900-acre North Toledo Bend State Park.
Located to the west of Zwolle, this pretty park offers access to a huge range of water activities in a beautiful and relaxed setting. Best of all, it's a pet-friendly park so your pooch is welcome to join you during your stay in the campground.
The highlight of a visit to North Toledo Bend State Park for most visitors is undoubtedly getting out on the water. The park features a boat launch with a double ramp, as well as boat and canoe rentals, so it's a popular spot with anglers and paddlers.
If you prefer to keep your feet on dry land, there are two hiking/biking trails to explore -- a 1.5-mile loop and a more challenging 4-mile loop. Other park features include picnic areas, a full-size swimming pool, and excellent bird watching opportunities.
The North Toledo Bend State Park campground features eight premium campsites in prime locations, as well as 55 improved campsites spread throughout the park. All sites have water and electrical hookups. Ten deluxe cabins are also available but do not permit pets.
Park entrance fees are $3 per person, while camping fees vary depending on the time of year you visit and the type of campsite you select. For example, if you're visiting on a Friday or Saturday, improved campsites are $28 a night and premium campsites are $33 a night.
If visiting with your pet, make sure you keep your dog leashed and attended at all times. As always, cleaning up after your furry friend is also a must.
Other than that, all that's left to do is sit back and enjoy this beautiful Louisiana state park. With your dog by your side, it's the pawfect spot for a laid-back camping getaway.
