Description

Make no bones about it, Peaceful Valley Campground certainly does live up to its name! Like many US Forest Service campgrounds in the area, facilities at Peaceful Valley are a little rustic. You won’t find any showers, electricity, or RV hookups.

The gorgeous location goes some way towards making up for the lack of mod-cons, though! Peaceful Valley is perched on the banks of the gently burbling Middle Saint Vrain Creek in Colorado’s vast Roosevelt National Forest, and the sites are well shaded by majestic pines and tall aspens. And at an elevation of over 8,000 feet, you and your pooch should have no trouble keeping cool even in the height of summer. Just be sure to wrap up warm at night! The 17-site campground has been designated as heavy-usage by the Forest Service, so it’s best to make your reservation as early as possible if you're camping before Labor Day. After that, it's all first-come, first-served! There's no entrance fee to the area, and sites start at $21.

You and your pooch definitely won’t be bored during your stay! Avid anglers might be glad to know that the Middle Saint Vrain Creek is something of a hotspot for fly-fishing, and you can cook your catch on one of the grills provided with each site. As you might expect from a Colorado National Forest location, hound-dog hikers will be well catered for. Laid-back lapdogs looking for a sedate but scenic stroll might enjoy the trail that leads from Peaceful Valley to the less wonderfully named Camp Dick, a 2-mile, fairly level out-and-back stretch that’s lined with colorful wildflowers in spring and early summer. Looking for a little more of a challenge? Look no fur-ther than the South Saint Vrain Figure 8 Loop! The 16-mile trek features some steep inclines, as well as lovely views of Brainard Lake. And of course, Rocky Mountain National Park is only 24 miles away!

Wifi isn’t available at Peaceful Valley, and many cellular networks might struggle with coverage. Fires are permitted, and you’ll find drinking water available on-site. Remember to bring waste bags for your fur-ball, and have a pawesome vacation!

Wag! does not allow or encourage Pet Care Providers to bring dogs to parks.
