If you're planning a pet-friendly camping getaway where you'll be able to indulge in a huge variety of aquatic activities, Salmon Lake State Park should be high on your must-visit list. This Montana state park, located just over 30 miles northeast of Missoula, comprises of 42 pristine acres on the eastern shore of Salmon Lake.

Tucked away along the Clearwater River and sandwiched between the awe-inspiring Mission and Swan Mountain Ranges, Salmon Lake State Park is a haven for watersport enthusiasts for many months of the year. However, exactly how you explore the best the lake has to offer is entirely up to you.

Some visitors love nothing more than casting a line and hoping that the rainbow, cutthroat, brown, brook, and bull trout are biting, or maybe targeting largemouth bass, kokanee salmon and a variety of other species. Other park users are much more at home being towed along behind a boat at high speeds, or just taking a leisurely paddle in a canoe or kayak. Whichever option you prefer, you're well catered for in this beautiful park.

Salmon Lake State Park also boasts a campground with 23 campsites, plus a hike-in/bike-in site with nine tent pads. The campground is nestled in a peaceful woodland setting, providing the ideal location for those looking to relax and unwind in nature. Best of all, all campsites are pet-friendly.

Of course, if camping with your pet, you'll need to make sure you follow all the relevant rules and regulations. This means your dog will need to be on a leash no longer than 10 feet whenever in the campground, and that you must take not of all signposted rules regarding dogs. As aways, cleaning up after your pet is essential.

Salmon Lake State Park offers something for everyone who loves being on or near the water. If you're looking for somewhere to take your pet camping in western Montana, make sure you keep this beautiful location in mind.
