Covering 498 acres in Newport, Oregon, South Beach State Park is the ideal place for a pet-friendly camping getaway beside the sea. Boasting several miles of scenic Oregon coastline, hiking trails, heaps of recreational activities and a pet-friendly campground, the park offers plenty for campers to see, do, and experience.
If you want to go for a long walk on the beach, go surfing, take a dip in the ocean, or just do some beachcombing, this is the park for you. There are also several hiking trails to explore, and the paved jetty trail is popular with walkers, joggers, and bike riders.
There's even an equestrian trail to the beach for horse riders, plus excellent fishing and crabbing on offer. Other park features include horseshoe pits, guided hikes, a playground area, and a nine-hole disc golf course.
Open all year round, the South Beach State Park campground is home to 227 electrical sites with water, 60 tent sites, and 27 yurts, with 14 of those yurts open to pets. Please note that not all sites are available year-round. The campground can also get quite busy during the summer months, so this may not be the ideal destination for anyone looking to escape the rest of the world.
While day-use visitors will need to pay a parking fee, camping costs vary depending on the type of accommodation you select. A tent site is $21 a night and an electrical site costs $31 a night, while a stay in a pet-friendly yurt will set you back $57 a night.
If camping with your pooch, take note that when your dog isn't confined to a vehicle or tent, you must keep them on a leash of six feet or shorter. As always, make sure you clean up after your pet.
By completing these simple yet essential tasks, you'll help keep beautiful state parks like this one open to pets.
